A new temporary exhibition entitled “Zsip-zsup kender zsup….”, 1000 years of hemp, has opened in the Ópusztaszeri National Historical Memorial Park.
The exhibition provides a comprehensive overview of the history of hemp cultivation and its diverse uses over the past 1000 years. Visitors will gain an insight into the evolution of the industry, from the early occupation of the textile industry, showing the techniques and applications of early hemp processing, to modern times, where hemp is being rediscovered as a raw material. The exhibition also includes ethnographic relics of hemp processing, which was an important part of rural life and traditional crafts, and artefacts from the former Szeged hemp factory, which recall the history of industrial hemp processing in Hungary. Experts and industry representatives spoke about the economic and environmental importance of hemp, highlighting how hemp cultivation can contribute to sustainable agricultural practices and the development of a green economy. The exhibition aims to raise awareness of the potential of hemp and encourage further development of the hemp industry, while also showcasing the historical and cultural significance of hemp.
